Fresh decks from Landayachtz

Posted on Thursday, 28 November 2013

Landaychtz are set to release two new decks. Firstly, 'The Prophecy', Justin Ortiz's signature foamcore based on the top speed. It looks to have a range of wheelbases this time round. Something the standard topspeed doesn't feature.

And secondly, 'The Charlie Horse', Charlie Darragh's pro model. A simple, clean looking topmount shape with what looks to be deep wheel wells that run nice and far down the deck.

Both decks are expected to drop shortly, keep your eyes peeled!

Landyachtz Tomahawk 2013 review | SkateThe604

Posted on Monday, 8 July 2013

Really cool review from the guys over at SkateThe604. Featuring the most recently updated Landyachtz board; the 2013 Tomahawk. This year it's had a complete re-design. Firstly, an inch shorter in it's length  overall (39") with a wheelbase of 25.5". A micro-drop and W concave has been added alongside the flared wheel wells to create a similar sounding standing platform to the Kebbek Ben Dubreuil deck, but keeping more width throughout.

Concrete Wave: 2013 Buyers Guide

Posted on Monday, 18 March 2013

The well known and infamous 'Buyers Guide' from Concrete Wave has just dropped. Often featuring the top brands pre-released lineups and new gear, its a must read!

We've picked out some of the stuff that's caught our eyes in the latest issue;

Firstly, new offerings from Gunmetal. Their latest concoction is the V2 Mac 10 truck. Sporting a 184mm hanger and a 46º six hole baseplate, therefore getting the both of both worlds. The trucks will be running stock with black Venom barrels (91a). The colour-way on those hangers is looking gnarly! Looking forward to these hitting the shelves!

Next, onto the Earthwing ad. Starting with their two latest topmount speedboards, the re-designed 'Belly Racer' and its new little brother the 'Hoopty'. The 'Hoopty' is a smaller topmount with a length of 34" a width of 9.75" and a 26" wheelbase, perfect for the smaller riders, or just fans of a tighter wheelbase. The deck itself has a composite construction -  "Pre-cured composite weave base layer for  strength, and dampening."

The 'Belly Racer' has received a complete update this time round. A new shape and array of wheelbases coupled with what looks to be some deep wheel wells could put this as a top contender in todays ever growing market.

The 'Drifter' looks to have returned to its older graphic, while continuing with the same wheelbases and width.

And lastly, a completely re-worked 'Thruster' with a new shape, length, width and wheelbase! It looks to have returned as an all terrain hybrid deck. More news to follow as updated information arises! Big things are coming from Earthwing this year, watch this space!

Really stoked on this one, Amanda Powell has always shredded since she blew up onto the scene. She has been with Riviera for a while now and has finally made the big step in the skateboarding world by getting her own pro-model, every skaters dream! Coming in two shapes, the first with less kicks and a more directional shape, and the second with beefier kicks. Both of the decks are running at 38.44" inches in length with widths of 9"for 'Black Buddha' and 9" 9.75" for the larger model the 'Amanda Powell'. The 'Amanda Powell' model features a fixed 26" wheelbase and micro drops front and back, creating a locked in yet nimble board. More info to follow on the 'Black Buddha'.

Landyachtz have been hard at work judging by the amount of changes to their already large wheel lineup. The Mini and Monster Hawgs have stayed the same shape and just received a colour and graphic makeover, as have the zombie Hawgs. The Biggie Hawgs have a much larger core than last years, making an already fast wheel even faster! The Street Hawg line has kept its graphics from 2012, but gained a durometer. A 90a Street Hawg is now available, bridging the gap between the 82a and 99a models, a new duro is not all the Street Hawg's have gained, the larger size now has an extra millimetre to its it name. No longer a 62mm but a 63mm, not exactly groundbreaking news. And finishing up with the last two wheels; the KM FSU's  and the 'mystery freeride wheel'. Prototyping of the FSU's have been going on throughout 2012 and fingers crossed Landyachtz have fixed the strange wear pattern associated with the old thane.

And last, but by all means not least , the Kebbek 2013 lineup. There are so many changes and tweaks I could talk about and bore you with, so I shall just focus on the new additions to the family!

Starting with the Topmount 33. With an adjustable wheelbase from 23.5-25" this is for you small guys and gals, or just fans of a miniature wheelbase. Similar in looks but not in features is the Amane Kishida pro model. A same length overall, but more adjustability in the wheelbase (15.8-21.5"), a nice meaty kicktail and a narrower width of 9.5". The Pierre Gravel has taken a back seat this year and has been replaced by the 'Snaker', Kebbek's latest slalom creation. This thing is fully set for tight, hybrid and giant slalom with the wheelbases it's running. A huge range starting at 15.8" through to 21.9".

The 'Rockin Rookie' has been replaced by the new Topmount 36. Essentially just an updated and tweaked version of the Rookie, it has a shorter wheelbase range overall (26.25-28") and comes in at 10" wide. The Kebbek topmounts often give themselves as a 'blank canvas' topmount that can me 3D gripped and tweaked to your preference.

New Landyacthz wheels!

Posted on Friday, 6 April 2012

Recently stumbled across a sneak peak of the new wheels from Landyachtz. The Biggie Hawgs and the Kyle Martin signature free ride wheels!

The Kyle Martin wheels have been a long time coming!  His clean and relaxed style is one of the steeziest coming out of Canada. So his wheel had to look the part. Honestly this is one of the best looking wheels on the market today, I mean it has ZEBRA PRINT!

So enough of me being stupid, and onto the specs. The Kyle Martin free ride wheel is a 70mm wheel and looks to have a nice big core. I have no information on the contact patch as of now, but as soon as I do I will post it up. Next, The Biggie Hawgs. They are 70mm tall with a 70mm contact patch. This is a really interesting size as it will open up a whole different range of options for top mount riders. These 'grip' wheels are only available in larger sizes in todays market. Such as the Abec 11 centrax in 77mm and 83mm and the Nersh moneyhax at 75mm. So, Landyacthz have really thought this through and have come out with a product that addresses the majority of the market (top mount riders).

Watch this space!
Stay Stoked!

The 2012 Landyachtz lineup part 2

Posted on Thursday, 1 March 2012

I have decided to separate this post into two parts as in part 1 I covered the downhill/freeride boards. So now I will be covering the mini mission/hybrid boards.

Firstly we'll focus on the The Trooper.

The trooper is 36.5 by 9.75 kick tail board. Landyacthz say it has a similar platform to the 2011 wolfshark which is nothing but good as the standing platform on the 2011 wolfshark was a very comfy one. It has a mild concave throughout.

The graphic has been kept extremely simple, and Landyacthz have gone for a slightly retro look on the graphic. None the less it looks to be a bigger and stiffer bamboo ripper.

Another versatile board from the 2012 line!

Now the Switchbalde 36, its 9.5" wide and has that signature sharp/aggressive concave from the normal switchblade. With its significantly shorter wheelbase, this thing is going to be very very nimble, so I'm guessing it more aimed at free ride or just the shorter rider. Nevertheless it still looks like a kick ass board.

Landyachtz 2012 board line up

The 2012 Landyacthz line up!

To the right we have the newly released board lineup for Landyacthz. (There a still a couple of additions to be added, will updated as soon as they are released). There are several new additions to the line up.

Firstly we have the 2012 Wolfshark  coming in at 37.25" with a slightly dropped platform and adjustable wheelbases from 24"-29". Even bigger gas pedals and finally, larger wheel wells! Many people will be happy with this as the 2011 Wolfshark's wheel wells were basically non existent.

The underside of the board has been given a fresh coat of paint, this time in bright green, with a more cartoon styled graphic.

And finally the board has hips like the full bag p swiss. Some say these are for footbraking and others for early grabbing. Either way it looks fresh!
The swallow tail is a popular feature in longboarding at the moment due to comet's boards.

The 9two5 is now slightly shorter and more responsive and also a margin narrower. But my personal favourite are the new hand sanded gas pedals. These things look extremely fun! The concave has also been given a new breath of life with sharper edges for that locked in feeling that we all know and love.

Graphic wise, Landyacthz have gone for a completely different style this year. A much more complex and colourful style. In my opinion I think this has really upped Landyacthz's game and put them up their with the more 'premium' companies. I will most definitely be purchasing one of these free ride machines as soon as they hit the UK.

Now for one of my personal favourites; The Tomahawk!

This is a 40" long and ten inch wide twin kick deck with a slightly double dropped platform and looks to have a good amount of wheel clearance.

It seems to be Landyacthz's take on a Sector 9 Super Shaka, but a symmetrical stiffer version. It has a fairly shallow concave which will allow for flip tricks as well as large amounts of free ride. Essentially, it is your do it all, go to board.

The graphic is bold and simple with a amazingly deep red stain throughout.

I can honestly think of anything else to say about this board apart from I think it really is a revolutionary board!

Any new updates will be posted on the Blog, so keep checking!

The Landyachtz Boomstick Proto

Posted on Tuesday, 28 February 2012

The Boomstick

This board was first seen on the new cover of the SKATE[SLATE] magazine with Kyle Martin shredding it up.

Will this board be a part of the new 2012 range released on the 30th of February? Or will it remain a prototype?

So first impressions, looks to me like Landyacthz's take on the comet Ethos. But, a slightly improved and more versatile style of board. I believe this for two reasons; firstly the amount of wheelbases and ability to house old and new school mounting trucks. So indy fans will be happy. And secondly look at the size of those wheel wells! As we all know wheel bite SUCKS! This will give the chance to run larger wheels for downhill or faster freeride. So far this deck is shaping up to be an extremely versatile piece of kit!

Now onto the rear end of the board; the kicktail and gnarly concave.

The tail: The tail doesn't look to steep which is always good, especially on a longer board as having a huge steep tail on a big board is no fun! It seems Landyacthz have found that 'happy medium' between being able to pop an ollie and still have the ability to free ride the hills. Kicktails also come in handy when doing big standies, railing corners and early grabs. It acts as pocket in which your back foot can comfortably lock into.

The rear concave: As we can see there is a hefty amount of concave in the back of the board. This concave is a result of those huge wheel wells we saw earlier. Tucking on the board should therefore feel locked in and comfortable. Couple this with the pocket created by the kicktail and you get one beautiful rear end!

A subtle W concave? There looks to be a shallow W concave starting after the rear wheel wells and finishing just before the front truck mounts.

And finally, the deck's surface! It looks to be a bamboo crossover of some sort. This should strengthen the board largely. Also it looks tasty! Overall this looks to be one of the most versatile boards of 2012 so far, cannot wait to try and hopefully purchase one myself!

Enjoy.
